The scope: What is Coretalk
Information on handling mental health, and specifically stress, is vast but scattered. Currently, easily digestible, accurate, and actionable information is primarily available through closed-off conversations with therapists, or through general-purpose apps or courses aimed at individuals. For managers and HR officials who wish to create positive environments for their employees, it still largely depends on the individual manager or official to take an interest and scour the web and other resources for information. The stated goal of the MMW HR Digital Platform is therefore to provide a single convenient location to educate, train, and equip these professionals and to help them understand the do’s and don’ts when it comes to mental health conversation. This includes science-based techniques on how to identify early symptoms in themselves and their employees, with the aim to prevent stress from happening, but also includes techniques to help them in case of stress leave already occurred and how to handle someone who is coming back from stress and help them get back on full track and speed.

PURPOSE
Goals & Objective
Coretalk aims to establish a digital platform dedicated to educating and training HR and middle managers who are entrusted with leading younger generations. The initiative focuses on providing comprehensive education and guidance to Hiring Managers and middle Managers about the significance of mental health, equipping them with the tools to effectively support the mental well-being of their employees. The platform's goal is to offer adaptable and actionable content, enabling productive conversations about mental health. It covers essential guidelines for navigating discussions on delicate topics, delivering key do's and don'ts. Additionally, the platform strives to empower these managers with the essential skills to recognize early symptoms of mental health challenges, appropriately acknowledge them, and take necessary actions.
RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY
Methodology
This report combines quantitative and qualitative research from surveys and interviews. Three surveys conducted between December 2020 and May 2021 gathered responses from over 7,000 participants globally, highlighting the importance of workplace mental wellbeing advocacy for Millennials and Gen Z. Quantitative data was used to identify patterns and validate insights at scale. In parallel, semi-structured interviews with employees from Scandinavian countries explored personal and cultural experiences of stress. These qualitative insights were analyzed thematically and informed key findings throughout the report.

KEY FINDINGS

Stress
Stress is indeed the main mental health challenge that Millennials and Gen Z might face. Our survey indicated that female respondents were more likely to deal with stress,, while the least years of experience would illustrate a gloomier picture on stress levels.
Mental wellbeing at workplaces
One in five employees consider that their mental wellbeing needs are not taken into consideration at the workplace. The lack of proactiveness about mental health leads to organisations stepping in only when they are dealing with a crisis.
Life Balance
The fundamental priority in life for Millennials and Gen Z is mental and physical wellbeing. In MMW we advocate for a holistic approach of mental wellbeing, that does not view balance as in and out of the workplace, but as one.
Our Solution
MMW proposes a three-step model for mental wellbeing implementation at the workplace that includes breaking down the stigma, educate and train employers, and democratizee and provide tools to employees for supporting their mental health.
Millenials & Gen Z are suffering from diverse mental health challenges with stress being the leading cause of mental unwellness.

DESIGN PROGRESS
Collaboration between all members through an online workshop
In August 2022, I organized and facilitated a comprehensive branding workshop with key team members to shape the identity of the web app. A central focus of the workshop was an in-depth ideation process around naming the platform, which had previously been referred to only as “the HR platform for HR and middle management.” The goal was to move beyond this placeholder and define a name that better captured the purpose and values of the product.
The workshop also included a training component designed for team members without a design background. This enabled them to actively participate in the design process and contribute to important decisions, including color palettes, typography, logo concepts, and the overall brand direction of the web application.

BRAINSTORMING
Key ideas we came up with
- Different adjectives that define us: we are leading, honest, effective, real, impactful, genuine, authentic, and kind.
- Brainstorming keywords for the name of our platform: forward, core, real talk, plus us, forwork (forward-thinking workplace).
- The main need: educate and equip leaders with mental health competency
- The main issue: severe lack of mental health conversations at the workplace
- The essence in a few words: Authenticity lies within, authenticity requires action
DESIGN GUIDELINES: LOGOTYPE & BRANDGUIDE CREATION
After the workshop, it was my turn to start designing and coming up with different drafts for the logo. We ended up choosing the name Coretalk for our platform, since we agreed it represented the idea of having a real conversation that focused on the core emotional needs and mental wellbeing of millennials and Gen Z at workplaces.
