Overview

The Dojo is an internal education initiative created by Woven by Toyota to help engineers and employees develop modern software and technical skills. The program aims to cultivate talent from within the company by offering courses and training that support continuous learning and professional growth. I was commissioned to design graphic assets, including posters, flyers, and web visuals, to promote courses and support the visual identity of the office space.

The Dojo operates within a highly technical, engineering-driven environment. While the content was course-focused, the visuals risked feeling overly corporate and impersonal.

The challenge was to create materials that:

  • Reflected technical credibility

  • Supported a professional learning environment

  • Avoided a rigid, institutional tone

The graphics needed to feel aligned with engineering culture while still highlighting the human side of learning.

THE CHALLENGE

Creating engaging visuals within a highly technical environment

CONCEPT

Humanising a technical learning space

Instead of relying on typical corporate visuals, I chose to centre the people behind The Dojo.

I created illustrated portraits of team members and combined them with graphic elements inspired by engineering diagrams and technical systems. These structured elements were balanced with softer shapes and expressive compositions to represent the interpersonal and collaborative aspects of the courses.

This approach visually reflected the dual focus of the program: technical mastery and human development.

VISUAL APPROACH

Blending engineering references with expressive illustration.

  • Illustrated portraits of Dojo team members

  • Engineering-inspired visual elements (technical lines, modular shapes, schematic references)

  • A flexible graphic system adaptable across posters, flyers, and digital assets

  • Balanced compositions combining structure with warmth

OUTCOME

Bringing personality into a structured corporate environment.

The final materials introduced warmth and personality into a highly technical workspace while remaining aligned with the culture of engineering. The graphics supported course promotion and helped reinforce The Dojo as a place where engineers could grow both their technical and collaborative skills.
